Binding Tiny Whoop to Taranis

Material
Here is the wishlist :
  • Taranis X9D Plus (I'm with OpenTX 2.1.9)
  • OrangeRX Transmitter DSM2 DSMX Module V1.2
  • Tiny Whoop with it's original main control board
  • Several fully charged batteries
Note that only version 1.2 of the OrangeRX module is working fine!

Preconditions and advices
The OrangeRX module is not stable and everybody using it is having problems (binding, no response to throttle, TW is going crazy). Few advices to limit issues :
  • Go away from 2.4 and 5.8 GHz devices : to avoid any trouble during the binding of the OrangeRX, shutdown your smartphone and wifi.
  • Be careful with low batteries : when you aren't flying you will not get a low bat alarm (flashing leds) and the VTX (video transmitter) can kill your battery in more time than you think. Also, when battery is low you can have trouble to bind correctly.
  • Do not put your FPV goggles/receiver to close to the TW
  • Always keep a distance of 2 m (6.6 ft) between your Taranis and TW

Instructions for model creation
  1. Unplug TW's battery
  2. Shutdown the Taranis, plug the OrangeRX module in the back and power on the Taranis again.
  3. Go to one of your model screen :
  4. Long press [menu], go down to "Default channel order", set it to "TAER" :
  5. Exit and create a new model :
  6. Go to page 2 and turn off internal RF :
  7. Turn on external RF and set the exact same values for "Mode", "Channel Range" and "PPM frame" :
  8. Go to page 5, set expo and weigth for TAER. Add flight mode on channel 6 with SH switch (this is mandatory and do not use another switch than SH) :
  9. Go to page 6 and add the channel 6 :
  10. Go to page 7. Increase min value for channel 1 to -67.0. Then reverse channel 2 and 4 (little arrow on the right of 100.0) :

Instructions for binding
  1. Unplug TW's battery and remove the propellers (keep in mind the position of the propellers)
  2. Shutdown your FPV goggles/receiver
  3. Shutdown and restart the Taranis. When starting you should hear 3 bips coming from the OrangeRX module
  4. Check the OrangeRX module's led. It should do a single blink every second. If it's not the case (two blinks or solid), triple click the bind button few times to get the single blink (the triple click is sometimes difficult to get working, just try again)
  5. Shutdown the Taranis
  6. Plug the TW's battery and wait until it is flashing rapidly (indicating binding mode)
  7. Push and keep holding the bind button on the OrangeRX module and then power on the Taranis. You will hear several bips, keep holding until the TW stops blinking
  8. Use the SH switch to change flight mode (keep holding up few milliseconds and release it), you should see a led switching from blue to red on the TW's main control board. If this is ok that means the binding is successful! If it is not the case, power cycle the TW several times until you are able to switch. If you still having trouble, check the troubleshooting section bellow
  9. Slowly raise throttle, the motors should start spinning. If it is not the case, power cycle the TW several times until you get throttle working. If you still having trouble, check the troubleshooting section bellow
  10. Power up your FPV goggles/receiver
  11. Put the props on and go fly!

Troubleshooting
The TW wont bind!
  • Do you have the OrangeRX module v1.2? Only this one is working
  • Read carefully the "Preconditions and advices" section of this page
  • Shutdown your FPV goggles/receiver
  • Power cycle the TW several times until you are able to switch between two flight modes
Binding is ok, changing flight mode is ok, but throttle doesn't respond!
  • Read carefully the "Preconditions and advices" section of this page
  • Shutdown your FPV goggles/receiver
  • Power cycle the TW several times until throttle is working
After binding, the TW is doing crazy stuffs!
  • Read carefully the "Preconditions and advices" section of this page
  • Shutdown your FPV goggles/receiver
  • Be sure to have set the flight mode on the SH switch
  • Check all parameters of "Instructions for model creation" section of this page
  • Try to change the values on page 7 (model configuration on your Taranis) according to this image : http://i.imgur.com/mi5A7GY.jpg?
What should I do to limit binding issues?
  • Read carefully the "Preconditions and advices" section of this page
  • Shutdown your FPV goggles/receiver
I tried everything on your page and on other videos/tutorials and nothing works!

  • It is changing the ID of your module. If you keep it pressed and power on your Taranis you will generate a new ID. Then you will have to rebind your TW
